The 5 Best White Sofas!

About 6 years ago I bought a Montauk sofa and chair slipcovered in white heavy cotton. I loved them then and I still love them now. Before that I had Ikeas white slipcovered sofas but I was ready to invest in something better and more durable and I am so glad I did. The quality is fantastic and if I get tired of the look I can always redo the slipcovers.

If I were to replace my sofas today I would probably buy the Dream sofa from ABC Carpet and Home. They are amazingly comfortable and have a slightly more modern look to them....less shabby chic than the Montauk. My other favourite is the Ghost sofa designed by Paola Navone. Stunning look but less comfortable than the Dream sofa from ABC Carpet.

Take a look at my picks for the 5 best white sofas and tell me your favourite!

White on White

Oh this is one of those super houses I come across that I just love. Anyone that can do white on white this well is a star for me. Line Kay, who is a stylist and photographer as well as the owner of this home, has such good taste. (you must check out her Instagram ....swoon!) A bit of natural wood and accessories in wood tones break up the white but keep the right mood at the same time. The white wood floors are such a favourite!

Are you brave enough to do white on white like this?

Fantastic Apartment

I have talked about the site Fantastic Frank before and how they feature the most fabulous apartments for sale. They style and photograph each home so well and make it so appealing I want to buy them all! When selling your home it is so important to style to sell. Remember to remove personal items like photos and such. Keep the tones neutral and easy for someone to see their furniture in the space. If you have too much furniture think about renting a storage unit for a couple of months so you are not crowding your current home...you want potential buyers to see the space and too much furniture could be a problem. Do any small or necessary renos before putting it up for sale. You will be amazed at how much more you can get on your selling price and how much faster it will sell.

Last year I renovated a clients condo for sale...in a market flooded with condos....we did a quick reno on her kitchen and two bathrooms and she sold it in a week! It really works so think about it before you sell!!

Renovation Redux

This wonderful 90 year old home needed a major renovation that no one wanted to tackle. Eventually bought by a young family with many craftsmen in the family to help them along the way.  They did a lovely job keeping some of the original features and changing when necessary. The hallway tile that was moved from another room in the house is from the 20's and vintage lamps, mirrors and furniture are found throughout the space. Love the olive tree in the hallway!

Pins of the Week: Tufting

I love the look of tufting on furniture even before it was back as a trend. I have always loved antiques and vintage furnishings and some of the old pieces in my childhood home were tufted. I have redone several pieces with tufting from the 50's and made it modern with heavy cotton fabrics or rich velvet. I don't see the current wave of this look going away too soon as some of the pictures below are from recent exciting projects. It is really a classic look that will stand the test of time.

New York Brownstone

This great space from House to Home has so many elements that I love.....like a wall of subway tiles! I really like that it has dark grout and the open shelves against this tile is so strong....and the theme continues into the bathroom as well.

The open living and dining room has a beautiful gallery wall and such a pretty fireplace. Great office idea wall with a light glass desk in front is perfect. Of course the little puppy in the pictures is pretty perfect as well..

Best of Neutrals

Another gorgeous home from House Beautiful all done up in dark neutral shades against white. I love the look of this which is always sophisticated and easy. This look never goes out of style and remains a classic over the years. Modern yet cozy it is a winner for sure. Loving the heavy marble counter on the island in the kitchen and the lovely chaise longue in the family room and bedroom. Of course an outdoor shower is always a wonderful addition to an outdoor space as well.

Pins of the Week: Wooden Chairs

The look of these wooden chairs in the dining room and kitchen are really super. I love the pale wood with the black and white contrast. The mix of black and rattan seating or raw wood with black seating it is really so impactful! All of this against stark white walls...so well done.

Have a great weekend!

Sarah Richardson London Flat

I love how Sarah Richardson designed this gorgeous flat in central London. So luxurious with incredible fabrics and large crystal and gold chandeliers! This kitchen is really spectacular with marble floor and backsplash in a beautiful oyster colour contrasted with a rustic wood table. So like Sarah to mix high/low so well. Sarah has a great website with all of her designs from her show and it is really fun to go through and get design inspiration.
