Thinking About Spring

So we are still in the dead of winter here in Montreal and yet I can not stop thinking about spring. Oh my how I long for warmer weather and brighter days!

I have been looking at lovely homes to keep up my spirits and fell on this sweet place. I love this light and bright little home with the blue touches throughout. It features all of the elements I love including several collections and a mix of white with various tones of wood. The kitchen is always my favourite spot, here with open shelves and a beautiful deep farmhouse sink.

Great.ly Shops

I was perusing one of my favourite blogs and came across a post about a new on-line marketplace called Great.ly that brings Tastemakers (wonderful bloggers with fabulous taste) and Makers (creative artists such as myself) together. The Makers share their products and the Tastemakers put the goods in their shops. I loved the idea of being part of this community and joined in as a Maker. There are Tastemakers and Makers from around the world and there is an amazing variety of handpicked goods to choose from such as home decor, fun ideas for gifts, cute toys for kids and so much more.

Many of the pieces from my shop are exclusive to Great.ly so be sure to check them out. I am very proud to say I have a couple of items in the Great.ly shop of Holly Becker from Decor 8!! One of my favourite bloggers of all time! One of my bowls was featured on Holly's blog last week which was such a thrill for me. Thanks Holly! My hearts were featured on the blog of Liz and Jewels which is an amazing food blog. They actually do great food posts on Decor 8 called Food in Motion. Be sure to check out their Great.ly shop

New Ceramics and Kitchens to Love

I have recently added some new ceramics to my Etsy site here...I am currently working with a new artist by the name of Marie-France Labrosse and she has created some wonderful pieces that I am now selling in my Etsy store. She has amazing talent and it is a pleasure to be able to get her work out there for people to see! When my pieces are in the process of creation and when they are being photographed (by Chloe Crane-Leroux) I always picture them in a certain setting...what kind of kitchen I see them in, what kind of table could I make with them and so on..which helps me imagine how the people will use them and gives me inspiration and new ideas. Here are some of the new ceramics in my store and a few wonderful kitchens that they would look great in...

Petit Apartment in France

I found this super cute apartment in France at The Style Files and I just love it! So small but really well done...all white to keep the space open and fresh. What I think is so brilliant is the the use of repetition in this space. The use of the round baskets on the wall make it feel so much larger and then the feeling is repeated with the mirrors on the wall. The large mesh lamp is shown in the living room and then just steps away it is featured again in the dining room as well. The vases on the table, although different sizes and shapes, are numerous and create a great impact. You would think that all of these repeating elements in such a small space would seem cluttered but actually it looks amazing!

Inspiration in White: Displaying Pictures

There are so many inspirational ways to display your pictures, photos, paintings and even collectables. I love it when there is a mix of all of these on a wall just as much as I love a traditional gallery wall. I like to use washi tape, as in some of these pictures, or mix frames and photos held with washi tape on a wall. I also love to plaster my inspiration board with photos or line frames on a thin shelf, which I have done in my office. In my husbands office here at home we have done a full gallery wall which looks amazing....in fact I have many pictures throughout my home all put up in varying ways. Some are even done the old fashioned way..one at a time with a wire and hook! Some other examples here are pictures hung with clips or making your pictures into a shape like you see with the heart...so sweet!

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: ABC Carpet and Home

I have been lucky enough to visit New York for work at least twice a year for the past 25 years. Part of my job during these visits was to go to stores and see what was new and exciting in the world of retail and to get inspired. Well there has never been a store that inspired me more than ABC Carpet and Home.

The history of this store is this...in 1897 Sam Weinrib starting selling carpets on the streets of Manhattan. His son Max then took the business and opened a permanent location as a discount carpet store. Keeping it in the family, Max's son then took over and moved it to its current location on Broadway and 19th in 1961. It grew over the years and a home store was opened up across the street.

Paulette Cole, a fourth generation family member, is the current CEO and Creative Director and she has really taken the store to a whole other level. She says the store is not about home furnishings but about loving... and with her creative team they travel the world to bring an incredible mix of furnishings (shabby chic to modern), carpets and home wares to this meca of home shopping. Many of the pieces are antiques or handcrafted by artisans around the world. Their saying is "Collect, don't decorate". I love that!

When I go in this store it's really an experience, not just in shopping, but for all of the senses. You can feel they have a passion, not only for beautiful pieces, but for the environment, health and wellbeing. Deepak Chopra host talks in the store, the restaurant ABC Kitchen has all organic ingredients and the store is committed to carrying eco products. But really at the end of the day they just have the most beautiful products that are incredibly well presented that make you dream....and really isn't that what you hope a store will make you do?

I love to see the kind of commitment they have to their customers, to their suppliers and to the environment. Well done ABC!!

(My daughter was in the store this past weekend and took these photos..)

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: Collections

I love to see what types of things people collect. I personally have a collection of tea towels (every kind from linen to cotton, white to colourful) different collections of ceramics (this includes a collection of Quimper from France and of course my own pottery) and various other smaller collections throughout my house (mercury glass and Bartlett prints to name just two more). There are just so many things you can collect...really the list is endless! Buttons, trophies, benches of all sizes, plates, ceramics, string, ironstone, chandeliers (one of my personal favourites)...I can just keep going..

What is really fun is deciding how to feature your collections and there are so many ways to show them off. Of course to get the full impact of the collection it should be shown together...the key is to be creative and think outside the box a little. What I like about some of the photos below is that it is not important what the collection is, such as the watering cans, but the way it is put together that makes it so spectacular! What do you collect?

Enjoy!
