Floral Walls

I am loving wallpaper these days and this floral wallpaper is so pretty...almost traditional but used in the right way it adds a quirky, retro feel to a room. I think floral paper looks best with other patterns..not too much floral in one space but I love the way it has been done in the first photo. Bright on the chair with a gorgeous botanical on the wall and a pretty botanical in the frame. Very sweet.

Inspiration in White: Branches

I always have flowers in my house...usually white...and I truly appreciate the feeling they give to my home ...fresh, natural and beautiful. When I don't use flowers I like to put branches and lately I have been seeing them everywhere in photos on Pinterest.

There are many ways to use them and below you can see a few examples. I love the tall ones in pots on the floor. They have a kind of presence that is different than flowers...kind of like having a large plant in your home....but different in the way of it being more raw, less refined which is a wonderful contrast in a sophisticated room. Take a look at my video Set the Table to see how I used branches on my chandelier.

What other ideas do you have for using branches?

Good Book: Decorate With Flowers

I don't know about you but I could not live without fresh flowers in my home. Every couple of weeks my husband goes out to the market and buys a few bunches of flowers and we make bouquets throughout our home. He is the best at picking the freshest flowers and he is pretty good at arranging them too! I usually buy white flowers, but in the summer I love a bunch of bright flowers on the table or some of the fresh flowers, hydrangeas and peonies, from my garden.

I was so happy to see that Holly from Decor 8 had a new book out and it's all about how to decorate your home using flowers. I have her other books and I just love them and I also love her blog here. Such great ideas here on using different containers, putting together different flowers and decorating a space with flowers. There are tips on how to get playful with flowers and how to create arrangements that are uncomplicated and inexpensive without sacrificing style. Take a look at some of the images from the book and visit their website Decorate With Flowers here...

Pretty Winter Plants

During this season it is so nice to decorate with greenery, plants and flowers. There are so many wonderful bulbs and flowers to plant during this time. We planted white amaryllis this year but they did not come out in time for Christmas. I usually plant paper whites and they always look so beautiful in the living room near the Christmas tree with all of my mercury glass decorations. Here is some greenery and flowers used in a gorgeous way in this New England style home in Scandinavia.

Inspiration in White: Entertaining

Yesterday I was lucky enough to be at a wedding in the countryside in Georgeville, Quebec. I was not there as a guest but as the assistant to the wedding photographer who just happened to be my daughter Chloé. I have been to a fair number of weddings but I have to say this was one of the most fun, out of the box weddings I have ever been to. Everything was charming, clever, and in such good taste. As I was driving home it got me thinking about entertaining and how to have fun and surprise my guests whenever they come to visit.... how to make even a simple supper out of the box and special in some way. There are really so many ways to change things up starting with the table setting. Not the same white tablecloth (my standard) but a really fun table...and what about the food? How about making something new and different...What are some of your clever entertaining ideas? Here are a few ideas to get you started.

A pretty simple table with individual flowers

A clever way to add the menu to your table.

Yummy individual Ceaser salads.

A gorgeous set-up for cheese and fruit.

Love this wooden planter with herbs as the centerpiece!

How about flavoured water? So easy and very elegant.

Set up an olive bar for guests to have with their cocktails....or a special cocktail bar even better..

Pretty mix of topiaries and flowers on the table...

Enjoy!
