Victorian Home Love

Where to begin talking about this amazing house? A renovated Victorian in San Francisco, this house is traditional, quirky, vintage and sophisticated all rolled into one. In the first picture there are so many things to look at! A stuffed peacock (really?), a bird under a cloche, a vintage clock and that is just the beginning! In the kitchen check out the custom hood (oh so gorgeous), the vintage stove and the new, yes new, fridge that looks vintage. The dining room has more antiques and vintage finds layered upon layer with the mirror and the statue and cool vintage bottles...oh I could go on. Did I mention the floor in the bathroom and kitchen? So great.

Take a look HERE for another wonderful Victorian home in San Francisco and HERE for one of your favorite Victorians that I featured..

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: Maps in Home Decor

The trend of using maps in home decor does not seem to be going away anytime soon.... I continue to see many original ideas of how to incorporate maps into a room. I find that when the look of the space is vintage and you add a vintage map it just looks so great! I like the large scale of some of these but even smaller maps in frames look good. I have two in my husbands office and they add such a nice touch! Also used as a headboard or backdrop in a bedroom, as you see in some of these photos, it works extremely well...

Enjoy!

Vintage Rustic Home

This is such an unusual home I am not exactly sure how to describe it....Rustic for sure with vintage style lighting and furnishings...but it is kind of kooky at the same time don't you think. The kitchen is made up of recycled pieces of wood but it is the pattern, texture and colour of the wood that makes it so amazing. Each room has hanging bulb lights which I love but it the dainty one in the living with the fringed shade that is really sweet....What do you think of this home?

This house is gorgeous inside and out! So fresh with the yellow and blue touches.... I would move right in! Full of vintage finds ( loving the milk glass in the dining room hutch!), like the the mid-century Bulova clock and so many other wonderful pieces. This farmhouse style so appeals to me. (HERE is another one of my favourite farmhouses)

The outdoors with the garden full of long grasses and the pool is so gorgeous. The beautiful porch....really it is all a treat...

 Enjoy!

White Home with Pops of Pastel

This family apartment is only 720 square feet in size but the owner of this little gem works for Ikea so she has plenty of inspiration and ideas on decorating....not just decorating but how to add great storage and manage space. Her space saving solutions are really well done with shelving and bookcases thoughout the home.

I also love the touches of pastel and neon...mixed with the black and white it feels so modern. Have you noticed all the pastel trending in home decor? Anybody who loves the Shabby Chic look has always had pastel but the look is creeping into modern furniture as well and I just love the look.

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: Astier de Villate

I love ceramics because as you may know I am, amongst other things, a potter. Many years ago I was in New York at ABC Carpet and Home (also known as the most beautiful store ever!) and discovered this line of handmade, all white ceramics from France. Incredible quality and beauty, I knew I wanted to collect this pottery, despite the elevated price tag.

Last year I had to travel to Paris many times for work. I had a day off and decided to explore the St-Germain-des-Prés area and came across this wonderful little shop but it was closed. I peeked through the window to better see what they had and I realized it was a boutique filled with Astier de Villate. I came back later when it was open and bought a candle in a ceramic jar and each time I traveled back to Paris I bought another piece as my special treat. I now have several pieces and treasure them so much! They also have an amazing line of paper goods as well.

Here are a few photos from a feature that Lonny Magazine did in the March issue on Astier de Villate.

White Decor with Ikea

This sweet apartment is filled with furniture and accessories from Ikea but what I love about it the styling! I have seen these dining room chairs at Ikea and I think they would work with so many different styles from modern to vintage. The bed tucked against the window is perfect in a small room and with the curtains in front makes a cozy little space. The inspiration board in the office is done on a wood shelf or board which is a great idea. You could do this on an rough wood board and it would look amazing!

Bohemian Eclectic

I have shown this living room picture before in the Floral post here, but I wanted to show you the whole apartment as I find it so inspiring. There are so many elements that I would love to add to my home...like the rug, the rustic ceiling light, the steel stag head and the leather lounger.

The hallway looks great with the metal table and the two mirrored drawers on either side of the door. The bedroom has a cleaner feel but with a bit of sparkle. It is fun and eclectic with a bit of a bohemian touch throughout.....Thanks to Lonny Magazine for sharing another great home!

Enjoy!

Updated Traditional

What I find interesting about this traditional home is the balance in each of the elements throughout each space. The design of the home was done with symmetry in mind from the front driveway to the courtyard where scale and proportion is evident throughout. Even though the house is very traditional, I like the little surprises throughout with vintage lighting in the kitchen and the big antique doors in the sitting room.

Although this is not my favourite style of decor I do appreciate the beauty of the finishing and the detail put into a home like this......well done.

Enjoy!
