Pretty Winter Plants

During this season it is so nice to decorate with greenery, plants and flowers. There are so many wonderful bulbs and flowers to plant during this time. We planted white amaryllis this year but they did not come out in time for Christmas. I usually plant paper whites and they always look so beautiful in the living room near the Christmas tree with all of my mercury glass decorations. Here is some greenery and flowers used in a gorgeous way in this New England style home in Scandinavia.

Toffee, Black and White

I have posted about how much I love the look of black and white before and I have even talked about how great brown or wood looks with black and white......but toffee...well that is a really beautiful colour. The warmth of this tone...it really is very special...It can be wood, leather, copper, fur, artwork....really the list is endless. Here are some great inspirations.

Hope your pre-Christmas celebrations are going well! We have had parties and guests over so much this past week I feel a bit behind in my own Christmas prep and in my posting too! It is so fun though to have friends and family near us and I feel so grateful for all that I have. How are all of your pre holiday activities going?

A Life Less Ordinary : Part 2

On Thursday this week I featured Part 1 of this post on the book A Life Less Ordinary. In the first part I showed you photos from the authors store, I gigi, and today I would like to share some photos from their homes. As I said the other day I find the book incredibly inspirational and their homes...well they are amazing!

Artful New York Penthouse

This stunning penthouse from Architectural Digest is an amazing home full of beautiful paintings for art lovers. Gorgeous color against a white backdrop, the paintings and scultptures create the feeling of being in an art gallery with the warmth of a modern home. In the entrance is a sculpture garden with an authentic japanese teahouse and an incredible bentwood sculpture. The living room features modern paintings and sculptural furniture while the kitchen is a work of art on its own with bright red laquer cabinets. I just love the lounge that features a Tresserra billiard table with wonderful photography and artwork...really such a perfect mix. This luxurious home really showcases the art within the home but I know that I can take lessons on how to feature the art in my own more humble surroundings to it's best.

I will post more pictures from the book "A Life Less Ordinary" tomorrow!

Enjoy!

Good Book: A Life Less Ordinary

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

This week my daughter came home with a book that she bought at Anthropologie called A Life Less Ordinary. She is a photographer in her last year of college and bought the book for inspiration for some photos she is doing next semester. Well, I took one look at this book and settled on the couch with a cup of tea and took some serious dream time for myself. WOW.....I came away so inspired to move furniture, take pictures and think creatively. The two authors and best friends, Zoe Ellison and Alex Legendre, are the owners of I gigi General Store in East Sussex, England. The book is a history of their lives and friendship and of the inspiration for their homes and for the store. Every page is a delight and their story is really lovely. Take a look at just a few of the photos of the store and tomorrow I will show you pictures of their homes...See Part 2 and the owners homes HERE !!

Nordic Holiday

These lovely photos are from the home of Skonahem Magazine blogger Anna-Malen. I love the feeling of this home and how such simple looking Christmas decorations can look so good! She has added lights around the armoire and mirror and some twigs in a vase with a few decorations here and there. Have you noticed this year how many Christmas photos have twigs in a vase with decorations on them and mini trees in containers. I would say this is a real trend for this year. She has made her home looks so holiday season cozy with a little fur on the couch or chair and lots of candles. Perfect Nordic Noel!

Inspiration in White: Rustic Christmas

There are so many great ideas to create a rustic Christmas on Pinterest (you can follow me here)! I have decided to do this style in my home this year and I am super excited to try some of these. I love the rustic table using nuts, herbs, feathers and candles. A few great ideas for wrapping presents and making gift tags with greenery. I love kraft paper and black ribbons... and what about the gift of cookies in a jar. So cute, easy and fun! Here is a recipe you can use to fill your jars! Also, add some pine cones and twigs to a rustic planter and fill it with candles...instant rustic decor!

White Country Christmas

This beautiful home in the country has been lightly decorated for Christmas with wonderful greens and candles. Pretty flowers, the wreath hanging over the kitchen island and the bulbs on the window sill add just the right touch throughout the home. The silver decorated tree is the perfect touch in this white home...really lovely. Nothing overdone just simple beauty. Hope you are having a lovely weekend!

Lights and Floors

There are so many wonderful things in this apartment but there are two things I really love and that is the light in the living room and the carpet. I have seen these two things over and over in many homes over the past year and they work in a variety of decor but look best in modern or slightly bohemian space. The herringbone wood flooring is equally amazing as is the twin antique bed in the kids room.....very sweet apartment!

Designer: Michelle James

This is the really incredible home in Brooklyn of lighting designer Michelle James. Once a fashion designer Michelle began the renovation of her brownstone in 2008 and what was a personal creative project turned into a career as an interior design consultant. During the renovation Michelle designed the many vintage style light fixtures in the home and her lighting collection was born. I find it so fascinating that this highly innovative and creative person has had such a varied career and yet it shows that in the field of creative work there are no limitations to what you can do!

So many gorgeous details in this home (including the lighting of course). I love how she has used the height of the ceiling to create drama with tall mirrors and the artwork in the hall. Simply beautful don't you think?
