Swedish Beauty

This sweet apartment in Sweden is one I lingered over for an hour today. Sometimes I just get so entranced by a home and how renovations are thought out by the owner. What strikes me about this place is how meticulously it has been renovated but how it doesn't feel really new or overdone. Some things are left to feel old and match the turn of the century history of the apartment. The furnishings fit this home so well and each room flows into the next yet feels unique on their own. I love the library so much with the tall stacks of books the gallery wall and the gold chandelier....lovely.

Interior Courtyards

I showed the third picture in a post a couple of days ago and it got me thinking about interior courtyards. I love this idea of having an open space in the center of the living area. It creates a beautiful division in the property as well as opens up the entire home to a shadowy kind of light. Add a little garden or a lap pool and you have a incredibly special oasis.

Happy weekend all!

A Kid Size Room

What is so great about this kids room is that everything is made with the child in mind. It is very pretty with lovely pale colours and it feels very carefree and creative. Everything is accessible for the child such as the low blackboard, the mirror, the little couch.....so adorable! Of course the new beds for kids are amazing as they transition so well from baby to toddler and beyond. I wish they had these wonderful styles when my daughter was little!

Inspiration in White: Wow Kitchen

This renovated kitchen of the blogger/photographer Beth Kirby (Local Milk Blog) is a super wow....so many things to love about it...but the brass fittings are the best! I love them along with that amazing stove and the farm sink. This feels like a kitchen to really cook in with family and friends. Not over styled or too fussy with a old wood island I can not think of a better design for a country kitchen. Go to Remodelista to see many more pictures.. and go visit Beth's blog! I have been a super fan of hers for ages!!

Inspirational Converted Loft Space

This incredible former warehouse in Amsterdam is the home of a childrens wear designer (Gray Label) and an architect and interior designer (Flow). I have seen one or two of these pictures floating around on Pinterest but today was the first time I saw the whole loft and wow what a great space. The loft is built around a wonderful open courtyard that lets light into all of the rooms. The brick wall, the industrial feel and the natural materials used in this home all work so well together. This is really one of my favourite homes I have seen in a while....the kitchen is really perfect and with that amazing chandelier.... Very inspirational.

Stylish Leopard

I have always loved a little bit of leopard in home decor and fashion. Twice today I saw leopard that really inspired me.....This coat that Giovanna Battaglia is wearing at fashion week in Paris is just stunning and so is the ottoman in the first photo...so gorgeous. In home decor it needs to be subtle and the same in fashion except when you have a coat or full dress it can be an amazing look.

Hope you are having a lovely weekend!

The Travel Files: Resto in Mexico

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

When we were in Mexico this past Spring we saw some of the most inventive and creative stores and restaurants I have ever seen in any city...New York included. So much imagination and so outside the box! Cool places that drive trends in home design and home design that has influenced some of these places so there is a wonderful exchange happening between the two. This store, bakery and resto, all in one, has some fun design elements and great branding from the store front to the cups.

I will be sharing some of the inspirational stores and restaurants I find (not because I am traveling but because I am always researching) around the world. I hope you will get to see some of these places in person on your travels!

Renovated Brownstone

This month Lonny Magazine features this gorgeous brownstone completely renovated by designer Katie Martinez. Very chic yet comfortable for a family this home strikes the right balance with a touch of modern and vintage. Loving the lamps in the kitchen with the dark island and white cabinetry....and of course the gorgeous backsplash and counter...one of my personal favourites. There are many more pictures on the Lonny website so pop over to take a look.

Inspiration in White: Kitchen Hoods

Okay now this is not a subject we talk about much but it's a good one......what about the silly fans we all have in our kitchen above the stove! I know we need it but have you really looked at it? They rarely look good and so many people kind of ignore it....and leave the stainless steal boring old fan.  If you have a great kitchen designer though you can really make it interesting or at least unnoticeable...My kitchen hood is like so many where it is fully integrated into the woodwork and that is nice but some of these hoods below are quite lovely and even stand out in a good way...especially the brass one..lovely!

What do you think?

French Inspired Home

This lovely home has a light and easy French inspired look that feels modern and new. The black accents in this home are so striking and the pretty chandeliers  in dark tones are the perfect pairing to this. Contrasting the pale floors with the white walls creates the right balance and the added touch of pale pink makes a nice feminine touch. Nicely done!
