Pins of the Week

I am starting a new Friday night series showing you my weekly favourites from Pinterest. I try to pin everyday and I pin everything from fashion and food to the best homes and decor ideas. So reviewing those for a Friday night feature will be great fun for me and you! This week I seem to have been on a black, white and camel pinning extravaganza...well to be honest I tend to pin these colours fairly often....but I found some really gorgeous homes and fashion ideas this week. Hope you all have a lovely weekend!!

Isn't this heart sweet! Love the mix of chairs!

Sweet Apartment in Sweden

A pretty little apartment in Sweden that has two floors and plenty of style. What do I love about this place...well I really like the lamps over the dining room table and the full picture wall in the same area (the hats make a nice touch). It is a nice balance to the shelving on the opposite wall and fills the room nicely. I also get a kick out of the kids room. Super cute accessories and a raw wood wall...oh yeah!

Enjoy!

Designer: Windsor Smith

I have been doing research for a design project I am working on and I had the idea to go and look at the website of Windsor Smith for inspiration. Well I certainly went to the right place! This designer has really incredible taste and creates the most chic, yet livable rooms. Really an outstanding talent...I could live in most of the homes she designs and feel really comfortable. What I like is that she can design in many styles, traditional, eclectic or classic but manages to keep her own signature running through her work. She keeps a nice mix of modern mixed with antique or vintage and even her most classic homes never look stuffy. Take a look at a few of her wonderful rooms here many from here own home...

Inspiration in White: Canopy Beds

I think I must like canopy beds a lot because as I was going through my Pinterest I realized that I have many photos of this style of bed....but really what is not to like about a canopy bed. Beautiful big beds with flowing fabric, often in white, creating a gorgeous romantic setting. I know they say that a canopy bed should only be used in a very large room but I am not so sure about that. Of course it looks amazing in a big room but I think it can look equally fantastic in a smaller space if done right. I love how it can be made to look traditional and more formal or very loose and relaxed with a simple sheet floating lightly over the bed....and when it is done in white it is the best!

Lonny Magazine Re-launch

It has been since December that Lonny Magazine stopped publishing their on-line magazine and I thought that was the last we were going to see of it. I was receiving their emails and went often to the site but new editions of the magazine never came out.....but to my delight this month they re-launched an updated magazine and website. I saw mixed feedback about the site but I have to say I like it. I found it is easy to navigate and the content is interesting and the homes gorgeous. Of course for me Michelle Adams, the former editor now at Domino, brought so much style to the pages of Lonny, but I am happy that the magazine is back and that it is still inspiring me with new ideas in decorating and design.

Check out this wonderful home of designer Susan Greenleaf in this months issue. Welcome back Lonny!

Good Book: Modern Rustic

I have done posts before about how much I love Rustic style so when I saw this book by Emily Henson at Anthropology I jumped at it. Emily is a stylist and author living in London and she has a really good feeling and understanding of this style. Rough wood, stone, muted colours and all natural materials are the essence of the rustic style and pairing them with a modern take on furnishings and accessories is really the perfect combination. Emily says, "Despite its use of recylced materials and objects, this is not a typical vintage look; it is more original than that. Modern Rustic incorporates the latest interior design know-hows and exciting, contemporary materials, and brings rusticity with all its honest, unpretentious appeal, beautifully up to date" I think this statement sums up her book perfectly!

London Calling

Pretty house in London with pale cream walls against dark rich floors making a wonderful statement. This house from Light Locations has got beautiful paneling throughout that really gives it great texture.

What is so good with this home is the variety of whites and greys. I love mixing whites in my home so there is a tone on tone feeling. This is the best thing to do when you have a mostly all white home and what makes it look so interesting. The outdoor and indoor lighting will also add shadows and change the way the light looks at different times of day.....my walls can go from white to pale yellow depending on the day light. So beautiful....

Inspiration in White: Moulding

I was with a client today and we were talking about adding some architectural interest through moulding around the ceiling and on the walls, This is such a quick and easy way to give your room height, definition, presence and interest. In the case of these pictures, the moulding is obviously from another era where plaster was used to create these intricate and spectacular designs. I really love the look of these rooms mixing Victorian era on the walls with modern furnishings in the rooms. They really seem to fit perfectly together!!

Bright Home + New Carpet

Beautiful home from Residence Magazine that is super fresh and modern. I am love with these Moroccan carpets that have this minimalist Scandinavian style. I decided I had to have one in my own home so I went and bought one at West Elm and put it in my office and I love it!! It adds such a great touch of warmth and really makes it feel so much more current and new. So fun to add one new element to a room and feel such a great change. Don't you just love decorating! What fun..

Blue and White Obsession

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

I have a few pieces of blue and white porcelain in my home and I really love it. I think it goes with every decor and fits into a neutral colour scheme perfectly. This is the home and personal collection of Furlow Gatewood, who is a been an influential member of the design community for many years. These photos that House Beautiful featured are from the book One Man's Folly (by Julia Reed and published by Rizzoli) and feature much of his amazing collection of blue and white porcelain. Now this is a collection! I love the blue and white stool in the first photo and the stunning ginger jars in all shapes and sizes. Plates, candleholder and vases fill out the rest of the collection, all set in the most beautiful home.
